NEW YORK (AP) -Hall of Famer George Gervin will join the San Antonio team that will try to defend its shooting stars title on All-Star Saturday night on Feb. 17.

The three teams that will challenge San Antonio were announced Wednesday by the NBA. Gervin replaces Steve Kerr in joining the Spurs' Tony Parker and forward Kendra Wecker of the WNBA's Silver Stars, who won the event last year in Houston.

The teams, featuring a current and former NBA star along with a WNBA player from their city, have to hit shots from six spots on the floor in a specific order, capped by a half-court shot. San Antonio's time of 25.1 seconds was an event record.

Former Bulls star Scottie Pippen joins Ben Gordon and Sky forward Candice Dupree on the Chicago team. Bill Laimbeer, coach of the WNBA champion Shock, and one of his players, Swin Cash, will be on the Detroit team along with Pistons All-Star Chauncey Billups.

Lakers forward Lamar Odom, former Lakers player and Sparks coach Michael Cooper, and 2005 WNBA rookie of the year Temeka Johnson make up the Los Angeles team.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press.
